A link from MSN.com to a new shopping tool on eBbags.com delivered a big traffic spike for the online bag and travel gear merchant late last month. On Feb. 23, just after it launched a new interactive feature that allows shoppers to design and order custom messenger bags from manufacturer Timbuk2 Designs on its own site, eBags sponsored a link on msn.com that delivered shoppers to the page with the tool. Within 8 hours, 13,500 visitors clicked on the link to view the bags. By Feb. 25, more than 28,000 visitors had clicked through, says eBags co-founder and vice president of marketing Peter Cobb.
“It’s been one of our most successful promotions ever,” adds Cobb. While he didn’t disclose the number of visitors who engaged the design tool once they’d clicked through to eBags, or the percentage who actually ordered a messenger bag, eBags already has lined up a similar promotion and link to launch through Yahoo.com within the next few days, which may be followed by another link and promotion through AOL, Cobb reports.
