LAWSON ANNOUNCES LATEST ANALYTIC APPLICATION FOR RETAIL

Business Intelligence Solution Provides Insight for Improved Negotiating, Marketing, Forecasting and Evaluation

ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 29, 2004 - Lawson Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: LWSN) today announced Lawson Promotions InSight, a packaged analytics application for retail strategists, marketers, merchandisers and buyers that will provide a layer of `new business metrics` for retailers.

Promotions InSight will become generally available in Lawson`s fourth quarter. The application`s quantitative measurement forecasting and analysis capabilities will allow retailers to implement customer-relevant promotions that will help drive business and increase revenues.

"Retailers will use the data generated from Lawson Promotions InSight to create promotions that can be calibrated around customer marketing objectives," said Carol Mackenzie, retail market director at Lawson. "Our solution enables retailers to understand the effectiveness of different support mechanisms, both in-store and external, that ultimately result in improved promotional programs."

Promotions Insight improves the accuracy of promotional budgeting, planning and allocation of funding by producing robust promotional demand forecasts and combining them with key financials, enabling analysis of promotional scenarios.

"Lawson Promotions InSight sets a high standard for analyzing promotional performance and its effects on the bottom line. With the help of self-learning algorithms, retailers can gain greater enterprise visibility and value from the promotional database by looking at historical performance and running scenarios for proposed promotions in order to achieve desired outcomes."

"Innovative retailers are looking to combine customer-centric intelligence with action," said Andrew White, Research Director at Gartner. "Technically speaking, this requires analytic capabilities, such as those found within Corporate Performance Management, to identify better opportunities and subsequent actions, to develop more successful supplier collaboration, to enable efficient execution and to provide key performance metrics for review."

With Promotions Insight, retailers have Web-based access to promotional archives that improve their position for negotiating with CPG manufacturers, forecasting sales and evaluating the success of past and present promotions. The product includes:

* Improved promotional design - to optimize trade support and inform supplier negotiations
* Accurate budgeting and allocation of promotional funding
* Improved return from trade investment
* Automated, accurate forecasting
* Monitored execution, to avoid over or under supply situations
* Enterprise visibility of previous, current and future promotions
* Real-time refining forecasts of current promotional performance to provide alerts for out of limits performance
* Clear performance measurements - fiscal performance, volume uplift performance, forecasting accuracy - including ROI summaries of brand cannibalization, brand switching, pantry loading, and net expansion
* An archive of promotional history - to support analysis and insight into promotional activity and to improve predictions in the future
* Immediate deployments with self-learning feature to enable modeling to adapt to early performance

Retail InSight applications are stand-alone solutions that can be deployed over existing enterprise systems. Promotions InSight complements Lawson`s Retail Operations and InSight suites, including Advanced Category InSight, which incorporates promotional strategy and tactical analysis, and Store Performance InSight, which combines store characteristics, product data and demographics to predict store performance.
