Online spending continues its robust growth
Online retail spending for the week that ended Aug. 10 grew 27% over the corresponding week a year ago, comScore Networks Inc. reports, reaching $969 million from $762 million. After growing at 15% in the first half, online spending has expanded 25% or more each week in the second half.
Total retail sales for the week ending Aug. 9 were up by 6.4% from the same week a year ago, reports ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate. In a sign that bodes well for the economy, it is the 15th consecutive week of year-over-year gains in retail sales, ShopperTrak reports.
Online travel spending for the week reached $1.05 billion, up 79% from $587 million a year ago, comScore reports.
