Sharper Image’s Q2 web sales jump 50% and account for 14.5% of revenue


Second quarter Internet sales at Sharper Image Corp. increased 50% to $18.3 million from $12.2 million in last year’s Q2, the company reported today. Total company revenue was up 25% to $127.9 million from last year`s $102.4 million, the company said. The web accounts for 14.5% of all revenue, up from 11.9% a year ago.

Sharper Image continues to solidify its position as a multi-channel retailer, with stores sales up 27% in the quarter to $74.2 million with comparable store sales up 15% and catalog sales up 11% to $32.2 million.

The company earned $807,000 in the quarter vs. a loss $617,000 last year.

For the first six months, Internet sales increased 46% to $35.2 million from $24.1 million a year ago. Total company revenues in the first half was up 26% to $247.7 million from last year`s $196.5 million. In the first half, web sales accounted for 14.2% of revenue, up from 12.3% a year ago.

First-half total store sales increased 29% to $140 million with comparable store sales up 16% and catalog sales up 14% to $66.5 million.

First half net earnings reached $1.5 million vs. a loss last year of $468,000.
