Online sales in the second quarter grew 55.1% over Q2 last year at housewares retailer Williams-Sonoma Inc., reaching $69.3 million from $44.7 million a year ago. The web accounted for 11.9% of all revenue in the second quarter vs. 9% in Q2 last year.
Companywide revenue grew 17.1% to $580.4 million in the second quarter vs. $495.6 million in the second quarter 2002. Store sales increased 17.3% to $335.3 million, while comparable store sales were up 6.5%.
Net earnings for the second quarter reached $17.8 million vs. $14.1 million a year ago.
Williams-Sonoma operates 489 retail stores as well as catalogs and web sites for brands Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids and catalogs for Pottery Barn Teens, Hold Everything and Chambers.
Web-based sales at ValueVision Media, which operates ShopNBC and ShopNBC.com increased 33% in the second quarter, reaching $26 million, the company reports. The web accounts for 18% of all sales. Total sales grew 12% in the quarter from the year-ago quarter, reaching $144 million.
