J. Crew’s Q2 web sales grow 6% while total sales remain flat
Internet sales at J. Crew Group Inc. rose 6% in the second quarter from Q2 last year, reaching $26.9 million from $25.3 million a year ago. First-half web sales were up 12.4% to $63.5 million. Companywide sales were virtually flat at $167.1 million in the quarter vs. $167.6 million a year ago and down 1.8% in the first half to $328.6 million from $334.7 million.
J. Crew’s store sales were up 7% to $100.7 million in the quarter and up 1.8% in the first half to $182.5 million. Comparable store sales were up 2% in the quarter and down 4.3% in the half. Catalog sales continue to fade, declining 45% in the quarter to $11.3 million and 34.9% in the first half to $29.7 million.
The company’s net earnings reached $15.2 million in the quarter vs. a loss of $7.1 million a year ago. Net loss was $4.4 million in the first half vs. a net loss of $19.2 million a year ago.
