Charming Shoppes’ Catherines.com launches extended plus sizes online
Plus-sized women’s apparel retailer Catherines has become one of a handful of apparel merchants to offer extended plus sizes online. Since the extended plus sizes of 28 and above already available in its 480 stores were launched on Catherines.com, they’ve outsold regular plus-sized apparel on the site by more than 10%, according to the retailer.
This fall, Catherines.com is offering some 400 extended plus-size styles online. Customers visiting the site can choose to shop extended plus sized exclusively by clicking a “Shop by +28” link on the home page to make it eaeir to find what they are looking for.
To prepare for the launch of launch of extended plus sizes on the web, Catherines conducted fit tests around the country with women sized 28 and larger to garner fit specifications and details less known about this often-underserved audience. “We’ve done more research and testing in this size category than any other retailer it the field,” says Dorrit Bern, CEO of Charming Shoppes Inc., which owns Catehrines. “Extended plus is a category that has been long ignored. We know the customer is out there and that she is ready, willing and able to buy clothes that have quality, fit and style.”
