NEWTEK MERCHANT SOLUTIONS SELECTS MERCANTEC FOR INTERNET E-COMMERCE PRODUCT OFFERING
Merchant Customers and Agents Receive an Easy and Secure E-Commerce Solution
Chicago, IL - July 30, 2003 - Newtek Merchant Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Newtek Business Services, Inc. (AMEX: NKC), announced today that it has formed a partnership with Mercantec, Inc. to provide a simple, easy-to-use website building software to new and existing merchant customers. The partnership enables Newtek Merchant Solutions to bring this service offering to market at least twelve months earlier than planned, and without the cost and expense of building an entire department
to implement the service and provide ongoing customer support to merchants who are new
to e-commerce.
The software, Mercantec PowerCommerce, provides a simple website building environment
that permits any merchant to create an easy-to-build website, fill it with products for
sale, accept charge card orders, and process those orders in real time. In addition, the bundled offering includes website hosting, an optional integrated gateway, and sophisticated online support for first-time e-commerce merchants.
"Traditionally, it requires a lot of time and effort for an agent to get in front of a merchant decision-maker, and up until now, our agents have been forgoing sales enhancement
opportunities because we didn`t have this capability to sell to merchants," explained Mark
Dunn, national sales manager of Newtek Merchant Solutions. "Our agents will now be able
to provide more value to our merchants and at the same time significantly increase sales
per merchant."
