Web sales boom doesn’t let up, BizRate reports


Online sales in the week following Easter grew 41% from the comparable week last year, BizRate.com Inc. reported today. For the week that ended last Saturday, online sales totaled $822.6 million, up from $612.5 million for the week that ended April 7, 2001.

The number of orders grew 34% to 6.3 million from 4.7 million a year earlier, while the average ticket grew 5% to $131.18 from $125.43.

Online sales this year have been up consistently strong week-over-week vs. last year. For the year to date, online sales have totaled $12.3 billion, up 41% over last year’s YTD of $8.7 million. Orders grew 34% to 97.2 million vs. 72.4 million. Average ticket is up 5% to $127.08 from $120.76.

BizRate tracks sales at 2,000 sites where it has contracts to monitor customer service. Its sales figures are based on sales at those 2,000 sites supplemented by sales estimates from sites it does not monitor.
