Why Etronics.com is revamping operations

To improve its market share in the highly competitive online consumer electronics and personal computer space, Etronics Inc. is implementing a new proprietary inventory and order processing system.

Etronics, No. 74 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites also recently opened a new warehouse and fulfillment center in Columbus, Ohio.

With more warehouse space and improved back-end technology, Etronics has a goal of shipping 80% of all orders within the next business day. “The goal of having more warehouse space and better technology is to stock as much as we can and ship it out as fast as we can,” says director of marketing David Dwek.

Etronics, which calls itself the Internet consumer electronics superstore, began selling on the web seven years ago and has become an online mass merchandise site with more than 70,000 SKUs.

Etronics is also making international expansion a retailing priority. In June, Etronics began using Comerxia Inc. to help with overseas logistics and other specifics. Comerxia provides a turn-key service for web retailers to sell overseas, including services such as site translation, marketing, fulfillment, payments processing and customer service.

So far Etronics has sold overseas to web customers in Argentina, Greece, Hong Kong, Turkey and Venezuela.

With expanded fulfillment operations and an overseas merchandising program, Etronics expects web sales to increase by around 25% in 2005, Dwek says.
