Sharper Image’s web sales grew at 3 times the rate of total sales in August
August web-based sales at multi-channel retailer Sharper Image Corp. were up 30% vs. August last year, while total sales were up 11%, the company reported today. For the first seven months, Internet sales were up 44% and total sales up 24%. Web-based sales reached $4.7 million in August from $3.6 million a year ago and $39.9 million in the first seven months vs. $27.8 million a year earlier. The web accounted for 12.3% of August sales vs. 10.4% a year ago and 14.2% in the first seven months vs. 12.3% a year ago.
"Despite the uncertain economic news, we are enjoying great sales momentum in all channels and across a wide range of products and price points,” said Richard Thalheimer, founder, chairman and CEO.
Companywide August sales totaled $38.2 million, up from $34.5 million in August 2002. Store sales were up 21% and comparable store sales were up 9%. Sales in the first seven months totaled $279.9 million, up from $225.6 million a year ago with store sales up 28% and comparable store sales up 15%.
"It is great to see our comparable store sales increase at such a high level in August, considering it`s on top of last August`s 15% comparable store sales increase," Thalheimer said. "Our Internet sales gain of 30% is especially significant."
