CBC/Radio-Canada LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE RETAIL SHOP WITH HELP FROM NAVANTIS
Navantis builds CBCshop.ca`s compelling one-stop shop featuring a variety of distinctive Canadian merchandise
TORONTO, ON, March 29, 2004 - Navantis Inc., an award winning IT professional services firm, today announced that it has launched CBCshop.ca (www.boutiqueradio-canada.ca in French) the online shopping site of CBC/Radio-Canada. Built on the Microsoft® .NET Framework and Microsoft® Commerce Server, Navantis developed CBCshop.ca as a unique online shopping destination. The site offers a wide variety of merchandise based on CBC/Radio-Canada media properties, including hockey paraphernalia, books, clothing, videos, DVDs and gifts.
CBC/Radio-Canada is one of this country`s largest cultural institutions. As such it has one of the most recognized brands in Canada and there is significant demand for its programming-related content. In keeping with the corporation`s ongoing efforts to leverage its assets more effectively, CBC/Radio-Canada`s online shopping site will generate revenues that can be invested in its core business: high quality Canadian programming.
"At CBCshop.ca, our customers can now easily access, find and order a wide variety of products online from anywhere", said Alan MacNevin, Director, Distribution & Marketing. "The site presents a cohesive brand to consumers, provides a user-friendly experience and generates new revenue for the CBC/Radio-Canada. Navantis has provided the CBC/Radio-Canada with an Internet-based solution that is flexible and presents visitors with easy-to-use online shopping features."
When it first began this project, CBC/Radio-Canada was faced with the need to improve and extend its merchandising strategy. The goal was to provide its merchandising division with a flexible and scalable solution to grow and develop business online.
Navantis led CBC/Radio-Canada through all phases of the project from vision, design, through to deployment of the site. By leveraging the power of Microsoft® Commerce Server and Microsoft® Retail Management System, the site is equipped with bilingual features, cataloguing, shopping cart functions, checkout and profile management capabilities.
The organization will also benefit from a number of innovative and advanced features that include: individualized and secure coupons; electronic gift certificates; online product reviews and ratings; synonym-based searches; and a wish list to help meet the organization`s goals.
"Working with this important Canadian institution and broadcaster was inspiring," says John Kvasnic, CEO and Chief Architect, Navantis. "It is rewarding to have delivered a Web-based solution that will contribute to the organizations` brand awareness, and help to support funding for new and exciting Canadian programming."
