SAVE MART SUPERMARKETS SELECTS LAWSON 2.11 MERCHANDISING SUITE TO MEET GTIN COMPLIANCE

Retailer cites Lawson’s understanding of retail industry

ST. PAUL, Minn., April 6, 2004 – Lawson Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: LWSN) today announced that Save Mart Supermarkets, a leading California grocer with over 120 supermarkets located throughout Northern and Central California, will migrate from the company’s existing merchandising software to Lawson’s 2.11 Merchandising Suite to centralize merchandising support and meet Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) compliance. Lawson signed the contract with Save Mart Supermarkets in Lawson’s third quarter, which ended Feb. 29, 2004.

“We were impressed by Lawson’s team and their understanding of our industry,” said A.J. Gross, IT Applications and Programming manager for Save Mart Supermarkets. “The decision to migrate to Lawson’s Merchandising Suite was clearly a wise move and will mean enhanced stability and support of our distribution and replenishment process as well as bringing our system current to meet GTIN compliance.”

The Uniform Code Council has recommended that retailers take the necessary steps to ensure that hardware and software systems are compliant with the 14-digit GTIN. Failure to make IT systems compliant could have serious implications including:
• Impairing a company`s ability to trade efficiently with overseas partners.
• Adding significant costs for re-labeling of goods, system incompatibilities, and delays in the supply chain.
• Creating price advantages for competitors who have made the conversion.
• Having less efficient warehousing and distribution processes, resulting in increased storage.
• Being unable to accept lower-cost foreign suppliers, resulting in reduced margins.

A flexible and scalable solution, Lawson Merchandising was designed by retailers for high-volume retail enterprises, delivering a comprehensive solution that includes category management, merchandising, strategic pricing, and supply chain applications for retail planning, selection, acquisition and control of merchandise.

“Our Merchandising Suite reflects Lawson’s strategy, vision and commitment to deliver a whole solution to the retail industry,” said Carol Mackenzie, retail market director at Lawson Software. “Lawson Merchandising can help retailers to increase net profitability by managing costs, improving operational efficiencies, and supporting revenue growth. In addition, customers that implement our Lawson Merchandising solution are taking a necessary step to becoming more customer-relevant. By having a greater mind share with customers, retailers are responding to customers needs with the most appropriate products, promotions and store attributes.”
