Revenue grows strongly at FTD.com

Revenue at Downers Grove, IL-based FTD.com grew 35% in the company’s FY third quarter to $48.9 million, from $36.1 million a year earlier, the company reported today. The number of orders in the quarter grew 36% to 729,000 from 536,000 a year earlier and average order was up slightly to $61.59 from $60.96.

Excluding orders attributable to the National Flora business, which FTD.COM acquired in the second quarter of fiscal 2002, Internet orders accounted for 88% of the order mix for the third quarter of fiscal 2002 compared to 86% in the prior fiscal year quarter. Including the National Flora business, which primarily generates orders from telephone sales, the order mix was 79% Internet for the third quarter of fiscal 2002.

Part of the strong growth was attributable to Easter’s falling in the company’s third quarter this year vs. the fourth quarter last year. Further growth was the result of FTD.com’s acquisition of National Flora.

Third quarter net income was $4.7 million compared to net income of $2.4 million a year ago. Marketing cost per order fell 8.6% to $6.20 for the third quarter from $6.78 a year earlier.
