Sportsman’s Guide, SportsLine.com join Amazon’s new sporting goods mall
The new Amazon store at Amazon.com/SportingGoods officially launched today with
more than 3,000 brands for more than 50 sports. Amazon lists nearly 100 merchants, ranging from eAngler.com and Michigan SnowShoe Center to the NBA and Target Corp. Newcomers Sportsman’s Guide Inc.’s SportsmanGuide.com and SportsLine.com Inc.’s SportsLine.com said today they entered selling agreements with Amazon. But Amazon, which still identified its sporting goods store today as a “beta” test site, did not say how many other merchants had entered contracts.
SportsLine.com said it is offering more than 70,000 SKUs through the Amazon site and will pay Amazon a commission on all products sold. It will also sell apparel through Amazon’s Apparel & Accessories online store. "We were able to leverage our resources and relationships with past and present e-commerce suppliers to limit exposure from an inventory standpoint, as well as minimize incremental expense and personnel," said Dan Head, vice president of e-commerce for SportsLine.
Gregory R. Binkley, president and CEO of Sportsman’s Guide, said he felt assured that his company would be able to extend its model of low prices and service guarantees through Amazon. Sportsman’s Guide sells a broad range of sports and hunting equipment and apparel through the web and catalogs.
