A Michigan supermarket partners with Beeline web technology

Busch’s Supermarkets, a grocery chain based in Ann Arbor, MI, has become part of the Beeline Shopper network, which provides scanning technology and a web site to help consumers plan their shopping trips. The Beeline Personal Shopping Advisor program creates and organizes grocery lists by the aisles in which products are located, provides online access to special promotions at the store and healthy eating tips from Mfit, the University of Michigan Health System.

Consumers use hand-held scanning devices to scan the bar codes on products as they use them, then download the information to the Beeline web site, which creates shopping lists and makes recommendations.

Shoppers also can set their food preferences to have Beeline suggest healthy foods based on individual health needs. The scanner starter kit is on sale at Busch’s stores for a limited time price of $19.95, which is $30 off the usual price. Families who sign up also get $10 in free groceries. Beeline promotes its service as one that can help shoppers maintain a healthy lifestyle and manage shopping according to such dietary restrictions as diabetes, heart disease, weight loss and high cholesterol, among other conditions.
