Pleasanton, CA-based GroceryWorks, the online grocery shopping operation owned jointly by Safeway Inc. and Tesco PLC, has named Gary Rocheleau as president. Rocheleau succeeds Steve Frisby, who rejoined Safeway Inc. as president of its Randalls division in Texas.
GroceryWorks operates Safeway.com, which is available in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Portland, Ore., and Vancouver, Wash.
Rocheleau joins GroceryWorks from Safeway's Vons Division where he has been vice president, marketing operations since 1998. He began his career in the retail food business with Lucky Stores in 1968 and joined Vons in 1994.
"Gary's knowledge of the retail and marketing functions is extensive, and he's a very good fit for the special dynamics of GroceryWorks," said Vasant Prabhu, Safeway EVP, CFO and president of E-Commerce Businesses.
