One of the Fastest Growing Private Companies in Silicon Valley, Speedera Sees Best Quarter Ever as Economy Improves; New and Existing Customers Bump Up Revenue
SANTA CLARA, CA — April 28, 2004 — Speedera Networks Inc., a leading global provider of on-demand distributed application and content delivery services, today announced that it has recorded its fifteenth consecutive quarter of sequential revenue growth. The company has more than doubled its revenues from the same time period last year, and is profitable on a GAAP basis.
“The company recorded the highest quarterly revenue in its history for the quarter ending March 31, 2004,” said Ajit Gupta, President and CEO of Speedera. “Our revenue growth reflects strong acceptance of the distributed on-demand computing services model for a content delivery network as well as our commitment to the highest possible customer satisfaction. We are pleased that our most recent customer survey shows that our commitment to customer satisfaction is working as overall our customers say they are extremely satisfied with the quality, manageability, price/performance, and service level of Speedera’s offerings. Going forward, we expect the positive revenue trend to continue as we add more customers, channel partners, and services to our portfolio.”
In the fall of 2003, Speedera was ranked the No. 2 fastest growing private company in Silicon Valley, according to the San Jose/Silicon Valley Business Journal, as audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers. The company is currently on track to again rank amongst the leaders of this year’s list, Gupta said.
In today’s challenging economy, Gupta added, customers increasingly depend on Speedera’s globally distributed on-demand network computing services to optimize delivery of their Web content while improving site scalability, availability, security, and performance.
Speedera has been rapidly adding new customers in key vertical industries. Direct Response Technologies, Inc., one of the Internet’s leading providers of online media and technology solutions, recently selected Speedera to deliver its customers’ advertisements to consumers worldwide and to support its affiliate reporting and tracking tools. In addition, PriceMinister, France’s largest e-commerce site for selling previously owned goods (larger than both eBay and Amazon.com in the second-hand market in France) has chosen Speedera’s globally distributed on demand computing services to enable PriceMinister to provide customers with a fast and consistent Web experience.
Speedera continues to build and expand relationships with existing customers including Trend Micro (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a leader in network anti-virus and Internet content security software and services provider, which just extended its multi-year contract with Speedera. Speedera’s distributed delivery network, deployed in the Americas, Europe and Asia, provides the global reach and scalability required for Trend Micro’s geographically dispersed customer base. The proven ability to handle huge numbers of visitors to the wildly popular site for the “American Idol” show led FOX Broadcasting to choose Speedera to deliver FOX’s flagship Web presence, www.fox.com. Third-party testing has demonstrated that with Speedera’s services, the site is currently performing twice as fast as a benchmark average of media Web sites.
“More companies are seeing the value in reducing their Web infrastructure and operating costs by turning to an outsourced model, thus freeing them to focus on their core business – whether that be online marketing, Internet retailing, media and entertainment, or high technology,” Gupta said. “We see the current economic environment improving, which is fuelling continued growth in our network traffic and our revenues.”
During the first quarter of calendar year 2004, Speedera saw a spectacular rise in traffic related to NASA’s Mars twin rover missions. Speedera delivered rich content including dazzling images of the Red planet as the number of hits to the space agency’s Web portal exceeded nine billion hits and peak traffic reached nearly seven gigabits in January.
In another significant milestone for the Internet, Speedera is working with the European Space Agency (ESA) to deliver content for the www.esa.int Web portal. Speedera is using its globally distributed delivery network to provide whole site content delivery, site monitoring, failover, and streaming media services. The immediate need for these services was the February blast-off of ESA’s unprecedented mission of cometary exploration, Rosetta, which triggered a substantial spike in traffic to the space agency’s Web portal.
Speedera`s partnership channel continues to bear fruit as well. The company is working with Softbank Broadmedia to further build out Japan`s broadband infrastructure and jointly win over new customers. In June, representatives from both firms will be speaking at the Asian Technology Roundtable Exhibition (ATRE 2004) in Shanghai, China.
