eBay outpaces all others in visits to apparel and beauty web sites

EBay.com led all retail web sites in the number of unique visitors to apparel and beauty destinations, with more than 2.2 million visitors for the week ended Sept. 28, Nielsen/NetRatings reports. EBay garnered those visitors through two different category sites within eBay.com: Clothing, Shoes & Accessories, which ranked first with 1.61 million visitors, and Jewelry & Watches, which ranked third with 613,000 visitors.

InStyle garnered 626,000 visitors to edge out eBay’s Jewelry & Watches section for the second spot. Others in the top five were The Gap, with 496,000 visitors and Avon, with 450,000.

Avon posted the most time per visit, at 22 minutes, 42 seconds, followed by The Gap, 7 minutes, 37 seconds; eBay’s Jewelry & Watches, 6 minutes, 48 seconds; eBay’s Clothing, Shoes & Accessories, 6 minutes, 31 seconds; and InStyle, 3 minutes, 8 seconds.

For the same week, personal care products recorded the most online advertising impressions, with 419 million for a 36.9% market share, according to Nielsen’s AdRelevance report.

Following are the number of impressions and market share for other categories:
-- Food and beverage, 354.2 million, 36.9%
-- Print publishing, 160.8 million, 14.2%
-- Apparel and jewelry, 62.1 million, 5.5%
-- Home and garden, 41.3 million, 3.6%
-- Toy and hobby, 32.5 million, 2.9%
-- Recreational gear, 28.9 million, 2.5%
-- Automotive supply, 26.3 million, 2.3%
-- All others, 9.5 million, 0.8%
