Apple leads in traffic to computer hardware sites, Nielsen/NetRatings says


Apple Computer Inc.’s Apple.com led all computer hardware e-commerce sites with 4 million visitors for the week ended Oct. 12, topping Dell Inc.’s Dell.com by 18%, Nielsen/NetRatings reports. Dell posted 3.4 million visitors, followed by Hewlett-Packard Co.’s HPShopping.com with 2.5 million.

Coming in at a distant fourth was Gateway Inc.’s Gateway.com, with 389,000 visits, followed by IBM Corp.’s IBM.com, with 276,000.

HP led in terms of average time per visit, with 16 minutes, 46 seconds, followed by IBM with 11 minutes, 5 seconds; Gateway, 7 minutes, 55 seconds; Dell, 7 minutes, 10 seconds; and Apple, 3 minutes, 40 seconds.

For the same week, the retail category of books, movies and music garnered the most online advertising impressions, with 923.2 million, according to Nielsen’s AdRelevance report.
