Webvan Gets Bookish

In a move that mirrors the largest bricks-and-mortar food stores, online grocer Webvan has added books to its product lineup. The selection will include cookbooks, hard- and soft-cover bestsellers, and children's, local interest, and nutritional books. Books are the latest addition to Webvan's "specialty shop" section, which also sells flowers, home and office supplies, games and home dˇcor items.

"We are aggressively expanding our product offering beyond groceries to give our customers a breadth and depth of choices when they shop with Webvan," says George T. Shaheen, president and CEO of Webvan.

Webvan recently announced an accelerated schedule to build a national presence, including plans to operate in 15 markets by the end of the year.
