Online sales still falling off at Sharper Image
Despite a wholesale turnover in senior management over the last several months, specialty retailer Sharper Image Corp. continued to suffer a decline in sales across all channels in July.
Internet sales at the retailer of high-tech gifts and gadgets dropped 33% to $3 million from $4.5 million in July 2006, while catalog and other direct marketing sales plunged 59% to $3.5 million and sales through the company’s 186 stores were down 17% to $18.2 million.
For the second quarter, which ended July 31, total sales were $77.6 million, down 25% from $104.1 million in the year-ago quarter. Internet sales decreased 35% to $9.8 million from $15.1 million a year ago.
For the first six months of the company’s fiscal year, Internet sales were $19.9 million, versus $32.3 million last year, a decline of 38%. The company’s overall sales declined 31% in the six-month period to $143.4 million from $208.2 million.
The company did not report other financial results, including profit or loss.
