Web use peaks on Mondays, a year-long tracking study shows

Retailers have long noticed that shopping peaks during the week--especially during holiday buying times, traffic is heavy on Mondays. WebSideStory Inc., a provider of e-business information, now has documented that phenomenon: Mondays are the heaviest day of the week for web use.

15% of all web activity takes place on Mondays, WebSideStory reports, with Friday in second place with 14.67%. Web use troughs on Saturdays, with 13.47% of web traffic happening on that day.

WebSideStory's StatMarket service gathers information from more than 50 million Internet users a day to more than 125,000 sites worldwide. The data represent a year’s worth of usage tracking, from May 20, 2001 to May 18, 2002.

A week of web access breaks down as follows, according to WebSideStory:
Sunday: 13.68%
Monday: 15.04%
Tuesday: 14.27%
Wednesday: 14.37%
Thursday: 14.50%
Friday: 14.67%
Saturday: 13.47%
