Amazon starts a celeb-a-day holiday promotion
Amazon.com Inc. has hired a raft of celebrities to pitch products created exclusively for sale at Amazon this Christmas shopping season. Each day from today until Jan. 1 will feature a different well-known pitchman hawking exclusive concert footage, songs, short stories or other products.
Among the celebrities:
Rock musician Bruce Springsteen will pitch "Night of the Living Boss," a preview of an exclusive concert video taken from the forthcoming DVD, "Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Live In Barcelona."
Dan Brown, author of "The Da Vinci Code," will provide a holiday story written exclusively for Amazon.com customers about the author cracking a mysterious code from his childhood.
Actor Michael J. Fox will sell original art he created for his children.
The Counting Crows will sell via video stream a full-length Counting Crows concert filmed exclusively for Amazon.com.
TV news personality Tom Brokaw will sell a story about a personal Christmas memory from World War II.
David Chase, executive producer of "The Sopranos," will pitch an outtake from The Sopranos, with brief written commentary.
Paige Davis, host of "Trading Spaces," will sell a home video of her opening Christmas gifts in 1997.
Amazon says it will not announce the scheduled line-up beyond the first week of the promotion. It is dubbing the promotion the Holiday A-List.
Amazon will kick off the promotion today with Bruce Springsteen, followed by Jack Black, Dan Brown, R.E.M., Will Ferrell, Michael J. Fox and Bill Cosby.
