Amazon starts a celeb-a-day holiday promotion

Amazon.com Inc. has hired a raft of celebrities to pitch products created exclusively for sale at Amazon this Christmas shopping season. Each day from today until Jan. 1 will feature a different well-known pitchman hawking exclusive concert footage, songs, short stories or other products.

Among the celebrities:
• Rock musician Bruce Springsteen will pitch "Night of the Living Boss," a preview of an exclusive concert video taken from the forthcoming DVD, "Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Live In Barcelona."
• Dan Brown, author of "The Da Vinci Code," will provide a holiday story written exclusively for Amazon.com customers about the author cracking a mysterious code from his childhood.
• Actor Michael J. Fox will sell original art he created for his children.
• The Counting Crows will sell via video stream a full-length Counting Crows concert filmed exclusively for Amazon.com.
• TV news personality Tom Brokaw will sell a story about a personal Christmas memory from World War II.
• David Chase, executive producer of "The Sopranos," will pitch an outtake from The Sopranos, with brief written commentary.
• Paige Davis, host of "Trading Spaces," will sell a home video of her opening Christmas gifts in 1997.

Amazon says it will not announce the scheduled line-up beyond the first week of the promotion. It is dubbing the promotion the “Holiday A-List.”

Amazon will kick off the promotion today with Bruce Springsteen, followed by Jack Black, Dan Brown, R.E.M., Will Ferrell, Michael J. Fox and Bill Cosby.
