Seeking acquisitions, Imaginova hires a corporate development chief
New York-based Imaginova Corp., which operates e-commerce sites OrionTelescopes.com, LiveScienceStore.com and StarryNightStore.com, has named Jay Kirsch vice president of corporate development. He will be responsible for finding, evaluating and executing mergers, acquisitions and strategic growth opportunities.
“Imaginova has been expanding rapidly and we’re eager to accelerate this growth by pursuing mergers and acquisitions more aggressively,” says Dan Stone, president and CEO. “Jay has invaluable experience identifying strategic assets and structuring transactions for media companies looking to launch new ventures online. He will be an instrumental part of executing our growth strategy alongside our robust internal development efforts.”
Kirsch most recently was a director at AdMedia Partners, an investment bank and financial advisory firm where he expanded the company’s digital media merger and acquisition practice while helping traditional media clients evaluate strategic ventures in the digital space.
Imaginova recently acquired Newsarama.com, a site with news about comic books. It also owns LiveScience.com, Space.com, Aviation.com and SpaceNews.com.
Imaginova is backed by Blue Chip Venture Capital; Gannett Co. Inc.; RedShift Ventures; Steelpoint Capital Partners and Venrock Associates.
