CDW enjoys a healthy second quarter of web sales

CDW Corp. posted healthy web sales in the second quarter and is nearing the day when the Internet will account for at least one-third of all sales. For the second quarter of 2005, CDW had e-commerce sales of $422.6 million, which is up 14.4% from the second quarter of 2004.

For the first six months of 2005, CDW, which ranks as No. 8 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, posted web sales of $859.1 million, compared with sales of $731.3 million for the first six months of 2004.

In the second quarter, the web accounted for 27.4% of all sales, the company says. Across all channels, CDW processed 1.63 million invoices for the second quarter of 2005 and 3.27 million for the period January through June. For the second quarter, the average invoice totaled $1,012, which compares with an average order of $969 for the second quarter of 2004.

“Our second quarter results clearly demonstrate our ability to execute well, take market share and deliver profitable growth,” says chairman and CEO John Edwardson.

In 2004, CDW posted total web sales of $1.5 billion, up 44.3% from e-commerce sales of $1 billion in 2003.
