NEW YORK, March 11 -- Scholastic Inc., the global children`s publishing and media company, announced this week the launch of its first ever online store for teachers in grades K-8. The Teacher Store at Scholastic.com provides one-stop shopping for every classroom and professional development need at affordable prices. The online store will offer over 2,000 products from Scholastic, Tom Snyder Productions, Educational Insights and Grolier including professional books, teaching resources, supplementary materials, leveled books, and more, organized for ease of shopping by grade, curriculum, theme and specialty areas.
As a new addition to Scholastic`s unique distribution channels, the online Teacher Store aggregates the company`s vast assortment of school-based products and takes advantage of the company`s existing warehousing and fulfillment capabilities to enhance customer experience.
"Building an online Teacher Store is a natural next step for our well established in-school distribution business," said Richard Robinson, Chairman, President and CEO. "Throughout our 81-year history, Scholastic has established a brand name synonymous with trust by developing a partnership with teachers and families to support children`s learning needs. In the busy lives of teachers who rely on Scholastic to be their trusted partner, our role is to make our high quality products available to teacher-customers where they live and work, and to be accessible to them around the clock."
"With nearly 100% of the nation`s schools Internet-enabled, and Scholastic.com already ranked number one with teachers," said Donna Iucolano, President of Scholastic Internet Group. "Scholastic`s e-commerce effort is a natural next step that complements our supplementary education business. Shopping with Scholastic through our new online Teacher Store offers yet another convenient way for our customers to obtain high quality classroom and professional products. The Teacher Store also provides the company with a new way to connect with educators who already take advantage of Scholastic`s other distribution channels such as Book Clubs and Book Fairs."
Ms. Iucolano continued, "The online Teacher Store also leverages Scholastic`s state-of-the-art distribution and customer service resources, including nearly 1.7 million square feet of warehouse space, a fulfillment center capable of shipping over 1 million units per day, all which is supported by more than 1,100 in-house customer service representatives."
Recently given a major redesign, the Scholastic.com web site now features a faster, easier streamlined navigation system for users. For educators, the new Scholastic.com also features a Teacher Resource Center, with unparalleled content including thousands of teacher-tested lesson plans, engaging student online activities, and integrated e-commerce opportunities. Content areas span reading, language arts, math, social studies and science. Parents will find a new, robust Family area that helps facilitate home-to-school connections that support learning, including sections entitled "What`s Up at School" and "Smart Parenting." Children will find their Scholastic favorites at the site, including Clifford the Big Red Dog(TM), Harry Potter(TM) and Captain Underpants(TM), all in an area designed just for them.
