UK online retail sales up 50% in October from year earlier
Online retail sales in October in the UK reached £1.1 billion, 50% higher than October last year and 36% greater than September, reports the Interactive Media in Retail Group, a trade association.
The group is projecting £3.3 billion in online Christmas spending, double last year’s level. The Interactive Media in Retail Group collects sales data from 84 merchants to create an index with additional data and analysis from Forrester Research. The IMRG e-Retail Sales Index now stands at 1357, compared to its base level of 100 when the index was compiled in April 2000.
The Interactive Media in Retail Group is promoting online holiday shopping with a web site, e-Christmas.com, which offers shopping tips and information and links to online retailers.
