Egarden Inc., a business-to-business e-marketplace for the global lawn and garden products industry, has entered into a long-term strategic e-commerce agreement with Orgill, the fourth largest hardware distributor in the United States. Egarden will provide Orgill's approximately 5,000 dealer/customers a dedicated room on Egarden's site which will have the ability to offer a selection of more than 50,000 lawn and garden products and outdoor accessories from more than 175 suppliers, and a convenient method to purchase those products. The dedicated room is a component of the overall Egarden service offering, which includes an auction and wholesale marketplace that delivers online supplier information and allows all members of the lawn and garden industry, including manufacturers, independent retailers and specialty stores, contractors, and landscapers, to conduct business transactions.
Orgill has developed various e-commerce programs to enable its customers to source and sell products on the Internet. Approximately 3,500 of Orgill's retail customers have a presence on-line through its Channel Master program. Orgill expects, by joining with Egarden, to offer its customers an expanded product and vendor selection, additional Internet-based buying and marketing capabilities, and the greater efficiencies derived by participants when buying and selling products on-line.
Egarden has established long-term e-commerce agreements with many of the largest hardware buying groups representing 25,000 combined retailers or dealers and have total lawn and garden retail sales in excess of $7.5 billion. Egarden also has contracted with approximately 175 lawn and garden and outdoor accessory suppliers to list their products for sale in the Egarden Wholesale Store.
