Apple leads traffic to computer web sites, Nielsen/NetRatings reports


Apple Computer Inc.’s Apple.com led all computer hardware e-commerce sites with 4.5 million visitors for the week ended Nov. 16, topping Dell Inc.’s Dell.com by 53%, Nielsen/NetRatings reports. Dell posted 2.95 million visitors, followed by Hewlett-Packard Co.’s HPShopping.com with 2.7 million.

Coming in at a distant fourth was Gateway Inc.’s Gateway.com, with 576,000 visits, followed by Sun Microsystems with 310,000.

For the same week, the retail category of books, movies and music garnered the most online advertising impressions, with 684.8 million, according to Nielsen’s AdRelevance report.

Following are the top 10 retail categories in terms of ad impressions:
• Books, movies and music, 684.8 million
• Miscellaneous services, 443.6 million
• Personal care, 416.3 million
• Auctions, 218.8 million
• Electronics, 200.2 million
• Office supply, 187.6 million
• Apparel and jewelry, 174.5 million
• Home improvement, 142.1 million
• Flowers and gifts, 110.4 million
• Domestics, 77.9 million
