Alibris acquires European rare bookseller classicforum.com
Alibris, a global supplier of hard-to-find books, has acquired the assets of classicforum.com, a European online seller of rare, antiquarian, and second-hand books, with offices in the UK, Germany and France. The merger will help Alibris increase its presence in Europe and offer a dramatically expanded selection of hard-to-find books to business customers, libraries, and consumers around the world.
Alibris has had a London-based European office since July 2000. "We are in the business of making hard-to-find books from around the world easily accessible to our customers, wherever they may be, and merging operations with classicforum.com certainly supports that effort," said Martin Manley, president and CEO of Alibris. "Libraries, book distributors, book retailers, and consumers can quickly and easily shop for an out-of-print book from a small book shop in Heidelberg, purchase it in minutes, and have it delivered to their door anywhere in the world. This is a milestone in our strategic plans for European expansion."
