While online retail sales have grown sharply so far during this holiday season over last year’s season, an even larger increase, led by digital camera sales, is being channeled through shopping comparison sites, report PriceGrabber and NexTag.
PriceGrabber said traffic to its PriceGrabber.com nearly doubled year-to-year during November to more than 10 million unique users, generating $2 billion in referrals to retailers. For “Black Monday,” Dec. 1, the first regular workday after Thanksgiving, PriceGrabber said it had close to 600,000 shoppers.
NexTag said more than 1.9 million shoppers used NexTag.com during the first three days after Thanksgiving, Nov. 28-30, an increase of 302% over the 481,000 shoppers during the same period last year.
NexTag also reported that, since last October, its number of unique monthly visitors is up more than 91%, to 5.4 million.
Both comparison services cite digital cameras as the hottest products driving referrals to retailers. NexTag noted that digital cameras accounted for 7 of the 12 most popular products consumers shopped for on NexTag.com.
