Internet sales at Sharper Image Corp. increased 24% in November to $11.1 million from last November's $8.9 million, the company reported today. Total company sales increased 22% to $69.2 million from last year's $56.8 million. Comparable store sales were up 8% and catalog sales were up 18%, reaching $19 million from $16.1 million in November last year. Internet sales accounted for 16% of all sales vs. 15.7% last year.
For the first 10 months of the fiscal year, Internet sales increased 39% to $63.6 million from last year's $45.8 million. Total company sales increased 25% to $438.8 million from last year's $351.2 million. Comparable store sales were up 13% and catalog sales were up 16% to $125.2 million from $107.9 million. Internet sales for the first 10 months accounted for 14.5% of all sales vs. 13% a year ago.
"We have good sales momentum in all our sales channels--stores, catalog, Internet, wholesale and business gifting--across a wide range of products and price points,” said Richard Thalheimer, founder, chairman and CEO. “We continue to increase our multimedia advertising to drive profitable top-line sales during the important holiday season.”
Without reporting sales numbers, J.C. Penney Co. Inc. reported that its Internet sales were up 45% in November vs. November 2002. Comparable department store sales were down 0.8%. Companywide sales in the month were up 0.3% to $2.82 billion.
Also without reporting numbers or percentages, Best Buy Stores Inc. said it is pleased with its online sales. It reported only that BestBuy.com posted “a significant improvement in revenue.”
