Nordstrom.com sales increase 32% from 1999 to 2000

Nordstrom.com, the Nordstrom Inc. subsidiary which includes the Internet and catalog business, had sales of $87.5 million in the fourth quarter 2000 and a pre-tax operating loss of $4.7 million, Nordstrom reported today. Sales and pre-tax operating loss in 1999's fourth quarter were $77.3 million and $15.2 million, respectively. Fiscal 2000 sales and pre-tax operating loss of Nordstrom.com were $310.6 million and $29.4 million, respectively, compared to sales and pre-tax operating loss of $235 million and $35.7 million for 1999. For 2000, Nodstrom Inc. earned of $101.9 million on sales of $5.5 billion. Same-store sales were up 0.3% for the year while total sales were up 7.4%. Fiscal 2000 results were reduced by approximately $56 million, pre-tax, by non-recurring charges related in part to write-offs of an investment in Streamline.com Inc., an Internet grocery and consumer goods delivery company.
