My Virtual Model back up at Landsend.com after “Oprah” appearance
The newest version of “My Virtual Model” technology at Landsend.com made its debut on “Oprah,” but it was premature. Anticipating a traffic spike after the web site’s 3-D graphic wardrobe-selection feature was to be highlighted on the show Feb. 23, Landsend.com and My Virtual Model Inc., the technology’s developer, rushed to get the latest version up on time. However, unexpected bugs created an application issue that made it impossible for a big chunk of viewers to access My Virtual Model on Landsend.com after seeing it on the show. Lands’ End did not reveal numbers but confirmed that traffic to the site and attempts to use the feature rose significantly after the show. “The issue was a shared application issue between Lands’ End and My Virtual Model Inc. It’s unfortunate that it happened on such a big day for both companies,” says a Lands’ End spokeswoman. While problems were ironed out, the feature was off the site over the weekend and Monday following the Friday Oprah broadcast. Back up on the site last Tuesday, My Virtual Model still is running more slowly than usual. Lands’ End has posted a message on the site saying it’s working to remedy the situation.
