GE GLOBAL EXCHANGE SERVICES CHOSEN BY RITE AID TO PROVIDE TRADING COMMUNITY ENABLEMENT SERVICES

Web-based services will help Rite Aid`s suppliers send electronic shipping documents

GAITHERSBURG, Md., April 17, 2002 -- GE Global eXchange Services (NYSE: GE), a leader in business-to-business Internet commerce, announced that it has been chosen by Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD), one of the nation`s leading drugstore chains, to provide trading community enablement services. GE Global eXchange Services (GXS) will help Rite Aid`s suppliers use the Web to comply more quickly and easily with the retailer`s electronic trading requirements for Advance Ship Notices (ASN).

GXS will provide to Rite Aid its suite of Web-based enablement services, called Net Community Manager, designed to simplify the process of bringing suppliers online with new types of transactions. Using a Web browser, Net Community Manager lets suppliers handle much of the enablement process themselves, resulting in an implementation process that is faster, has fewer errors and requires less resources. Services being provided to Rite Aid under this ASN initiative include:
· The ability for individual suppliers to learn about Rite Aid`s requirements for online trading, and then obtain the appropriate product or service to perform transactions
· Tools allowing individual suppliers to set-up and test their compliance with Rite Aid`s electronic document standards
· Reports that allow Rite Aid to track the progress of its trading partner enablement programs online
· 24x7 online support customized for Rite Aid`s trading community

"Successful community enablement is a crucial, and often overlooked, prerequisite to experiencing the increased efficiency and ROI that accompanies electronic trading," said Steven Scala, vice president of marketing for GXS. "We are very pleased that one of the nation`s most well-known drug store chains has chosen GXS to assist their supplier community toward the goal of fully automated trading."

Rite Aid Corporation is one of the nation`s leading drugstore chains with annual revenues of more than $15 billion and approximately 3,500 stores in 28 states and the District of Columbia. Information about Rite Aid, including corporate background and press releases, is available through the company`s website at www.riteaid.com.
