73 million Europeans shopped online during the second quarter, up 19.7% from 61 million in the second quarter of 2004, with southern Europe experiencing the highest growth rate, according to a Forrester Research report just out.
The United Kingdom and Germany had the most online shoppers (22 million), followed by France (13 million), Italy (6 million), Netherlands (4 million), Sweden (3 million), and Spain (2 million).
France and Italy posted the largest increase in online shoppers (40%), while growth in Germany, the Netherlands, and the U.K., leveled off, Forrester said.
Fifty-one percent of all European online consumers shopped online during the quarter, compared with 46% in 2004, according to Forrester. The U.K. had the largest percentage of online consumers shopping on the web (71%), followed by Sweden (64%), Germany (59%), France (54%), Netherlands (45%), Italy (25%) and Spain (19%).
