JC WHITNEY REVS UP ITS WEB SITE WITH PIVIA RESULTING IN 4X MORE SITE CAPACITY AND 5X FASTER DOWNLOAD TIMES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CUPERTINO, Calif., (April 30, 2002) – JC Whitney, the largest direct marketer of name-brand automotive parts and accessories, has enhanced its web site, www.jcwhitney.com, with a turbo boost from Pivia, Inc. Since incorporating Pivia’s Dynamic Application Caching software into its web site infrastructure, JC Whitney has significantly increased its potential web site capacity without spending additional dollars on hardware or software. As a result, the company has been able to scale its site quickly to accommodate increasing site traffic levels while simultaneously improving the site performance and download times for its customers.

“JC Whitney continues to see strong growth in the Internet channel and we needed a solution that would allow us to scale and enhance the user experience,” said Marty Wehrle, Vice President of Information Technology at JC Whitney. “As a result of using Pivia’s software, JC Whitney can scale its site 4x without adding expensive hardware. We have also improved our customer’s experience by improving download speed by 5x during our peak periods.”

“With more and more traffic coming to our site, we needed to quickly accommodate the increasing demand,” said John Armstrong, Vice President of Internet marketing at JC Whitney. “We have seen a strong correlation between site performance and sales volume. Pivia’s software has had a measurable impact.” Armstrong said.

“JC Whitney is a typical example of web sites with ever increasing traffic that need to scale, improve the user experience and lower costs,” said Neil Selvin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pivia, Inc. “Pivia allows JC Whitney to do all of that – all without capital spending or implementation hassles,” Selvin added.

Better Utilization of Existing Site Infrastructure
“In evaluating other alternatives, we believed that adding more hardware was only going to mask inefficiencies in our application. Furthermore, we found that the other caching solutions required additional software, hardware, and development time,” said Geoff Robertson, Director of Technology at JC Whitney. “Pivia provides a remarkably non-intrusive solution. With minimal work on our part, we were able to go live on the Pivia network within minutes.”

To measure scalability gains, JC Whitney evaluates thread counts and CPU usage on their application servers. Even with customers viewing 30-40% more pages during a single visit, resource load on the application servers is down by 4x enabling JC Whitney to better utilize their existing web infrastructure for fulfilling purchases. JC Whitney has seen average order value increase by 10% since implementing Pivia’s software.
