New Solutions Suite Enables Enterprises to Quickly Adapt and Respond to
Industry Challenges and Align Employee Knowledge and Performance To Business
Objectives
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - May 1, 2002 - Docent, Inc. (NASDAQ: DCNT), the
premier provider of business performance management solutions for Global
2000 companies, today unveiled Docent Enterprise 6.0TM, a complete solutions
suite of applications that address the distinct business challenges of
multiple industries, including technology, telecommunications, financial
services, retail, life sciences, energy, and manufacturing. Docent
Enterprise 6.0 sets a new standard for how businesses across all industries
effectively align strategic initiatives with individual and organizational
learning, including channel and customer education, new product launches,
sales force and partner readiness, regulatory compliance and corporate
university programs.
"Business leaders recognize the limits of eLearning products that offer only
training cost reduction. Decision makers need solutions tailored to their
industry and their company that deliver measurable business results," said
Cushing Anderson, Program Manager of IDC`s Learning Services Research.
"Docent`s approach of delivering industry-specific solutions is a clear move
toward delivering greater customer value."
Customers today are seeking single-vendor solutions that deliver the range
of applications needed to support enterprise-wide initiatives. Docent is
the first vendor to deliver an internationalized suite of solutions that
help businesses improve performance by increasing the effectiveness of
individuals and aligning them with the goals of the corporation. Highlights
of industry advancements in Docent Enterprise 6.0 include:
Global commerce -The Docent Learning Management Server TM (LMS) now extends
the ability of profit center managers to deliver revenue-based training to
customers, partners and suppliers with sophisticated multi-channel pricing
and discount capabilities, and simultaneous support for major languages and
all currencies.
Content interoperability - Docent Enterprise 6.0 supports the most
comprehensive range of third party content to address learning requirements
specific to vertical industries and functional disciplines. Vendor-specific
connectors provide deep integration with content from leading providers of
self-paced courses including DigitalThink, NetG, Skillsoft, and SmartForce.
Out-of-the-box integration with the latest web collaboration offerings from
Centra, Interwise, and WebEx are also provided. In addition, Docent`s
enhanced Content Application Programming Interface (API) enables content
partners to easily integrate with the Docent platform in a way that ensures
interoperability independent of new releases of the Docent product suite.
Standards leadership - Docent Enterprise 6.0 continues Docent`s leadership
in contributing to the development and support of industry standards that
provide content portability and interoperability. The Docent LMS and
Learning Content Management System(tm) (LCMS) support all levels of
AICC/SCORM content, including compliance with the latest SCORM 1.2
conformance test suite that was released in February 2002.
Learning Effectiveness - Docent LMS 6.0 is the first and only learning
management system that supports the ability for learning managers to assign,
manage and track a blend of learning activities for each student including
instructor-led, online, and synchronous courses as well as informal courses,
programs, activities and supplementary materials.
Performance management - Docent Peak Performance TM supports HR initiatives
aimed at instilling a performance-based culture by ensuring that corporate
goals are cascaded to all levels of the organization, and that individual
objectives, measures, development activities, and compensation programs are
aligned with those goals.
Live communication and collaboration -Docent Live! accelerates communication
and collaboration among geographically dispersed employees, partners, and
customers. Multiple modes of live interaction are supported, including
one-to-one mentoring, team meetings, virtual classrooms, seminars, and mass
audience broadcast events.
Integrated informal knowledge exchange - Docent Exchange TM enables
collaborative creation and exchange of multimedia presentations and
documents among sales and marketing teams, channel partners, supply chain
partners, and customer support teams when time is of the essence. Docent
Exchange TM is tightly integrated with Docent`s LMS so that individuals can
seamlessly navigate between the informal, knowledge exchange environment and
the more structured learning management environment.
Collaborative content creation, management, and delivery - The Docent
Learning Content Management System TM extensions in Docent Enterprise 6.0
include robust repository services that allow geographically dispersed
content creators to share, repurpose, and deliver compelling content to the
web. Its standards-based implementation provides interoperability with any
AICC/SCORM-compliant learning management system.
StorageTek is a $2 billion global company that delivers a broad range of
storage solutions for digitized data across servers, media types and storage
