E-commerce spending on Visa branded cards in the U.S. rose 48.4% year-over-year to $2.7 billion for the week ending Dec. 25, according to Visa U.S.A.’s Holiday SpendTrak report. Visa processed 33.4 million transactions, up 41.3.% from the same period in 2004. The average ticket for an online purchase was $80.97.
Online purchases accounted for about 12% of the $32.2 billion in total spending on all Visa cards for the week and about 10.6% of total transactions of 541 million. Total spending for the week was up 26.9% year over year while total transactions were up 25.8%. The average ticket for all spending was $59.54.
E-commerce spending between Oct. 31 and Dec. 25 totaled $24 billion, representing 9.6% of total spending of $232.4 billion for the period.
