Online retailing experienced its first $3 billion week ever for the week ending Dec. 11, 2005, comScore Networks Inc. reports. Online sales for the week grew 19%, reaching $3.07 billion from $2.57 billion in the corresponding week a year ago, comScore says. Interestingly, the same week in 2003 was when online sales exceeded $2 billion for the first time.
By comparison, total retail sales for the week ending Dec. 10 fell 8.6% vs. the corresponding week a year ago, reports ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate.
Online travel sales for week ending Dec. 11 were down 1% to $1.05 billion from $1.06 billion in the corresponding week a year ago, comScore reports.
While comScore reports weekly sales on a three-week lag, it did report last week that sales from Nov. 1 through Christmas totaled $18.11 billion, up 25% from $14.5 billion in the same period in 2004.
