CyberSource(R) Clarifies Details of Patent-Pending Fusion Scoring Technology
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 10 --
CyberSource Corporation (Nasdaq: CYBS), a leading provider of risk management
and electronic payment solutions for enterprise businesses, today clarified
details about its patent-pending Fusion Scoring technology, announced April
10, 2002. These details clarify the distinction and relationship between
CyberSource`s patent-pending scoring technology; the CyberSource Advanced
Fraud Screen Service enhanced by Visa (CAFSSEV) announced October 22, 2001;
and related Visa technology.
New Fusion Scoring Technology
Historically, fraud screening solutions have been primarily based on
either a rules- or neural network-based model. Each of these models has
inherent strengths and weaknesses in determining the risk of fraud in
card-not-present orders. The CyberSource patent-pending Fusion Scoring
technology fuses the results generated from any number and type of scoring
models, appropriately utilizing the best attributes of each model to increase
scoring accuracy. Compared to systems using only a rules or neural network
model, internal test results indicate Fusion Scoring technology can increase
scoring accuracy up to 100 percent.
Fusion Scoring Technology and CyberSource Advanced Fraud Screen enhanced
by Visa
CyberSource Advanced Fraud Screen Service enhanced by Visa is a real-time
payment card fraud risk prediction scoring service announced by CyberSource
and Visa in October 2001 with planned availability in May 2002. CyberSource
contributes to CAFSSEV a rules-based model and a neural network model that
monitors and analyzes trends in CyberSource`s large, constantly updated
database of global online fraud trends and purchase activity across multiple
merchants. The score results of each model are blended using the new
CyberSource Fusion Scoring technology to deliver a highly accurate score to
predict fraud risk.
Visa Technology and CyberSource Advanced Fraud Screen Service enhanced by
Visa
Visa`s patent pending Virtual Intelligence Risk Technology will enable the
CyberSource Advanced Fraud Screen Service enhanced by Visa to further improve
fraud detection accuracy for card-not-present merchants. Visa`s Virtual
Intelligence Risk Technology provides continuous model updates to the service.
Frequent model updating is critical in identifying rapidly changing fraud
patterns, which are becoming more common now that physical boundaries are no
longer barriers in an increasingly interconnected world. This proprietary
technology employs global fraud trends and global online and offline payment
card usage patterns.
