CYBERSOURCE® LICENSES QUOVA’S GEOPOINT TO ENHANCE ITS COMMERCE SERVICES SUITE
Quova’s GeoPoint Service Provides Geolocation Data to Help Detect Potentially Fraudulent eCommerce Transactions
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (May 21, 2002) - Quova, the leading provider of Internet geolocation services to online businesses, today announced that CyberSource Corporation, a leading provider of risk management and electronic payment solutions for enterprise businesses, is licensing Quova`s GeoPoint service with plans to incorporate it into CyberSource`s fraud screen and export compliance services. The geographical location information provided by Quova`s GeoPoint service will be leveraged by CyberSource to supplement its proprietary geolocation capabilities in several of CyberSource`s services.
Quova`s GeoPoint service enables Web sites to identify in real time the geographic location of their customers, from the country down to the city level. Comparing this location with the billing or shipment information provided by a purchaser, as well as other factors, can help detect potentially fraudulent behavior.
"IP address information can be used for several purposes in today`s automated order acceptance processes," said Jeff King, director of product management at CyberSource Corporation. "We selected Quova`s GeoPoint technology to supplement our own internally built services because of Quova`s ability and commitment to constantly update their IP address databases and provide additional data fields for cross checking orders."
GeoPoint is designed to respect individual privacy rights, as the system does not use cookies, profiles, registration data, click-stream data or any other means to identify or track individuals. The service was designed from the ground up specifically to meet the needs of the busiest Web sites and the most demanding applications.
"Online fraud is a known problem, costing banks and merchants millions," said Marie Alexander, Quova president and CEO. "We`re proud to be working with CyberSource to help companies defend themselves against cyber theft."
