Google held top position in November search rankings, comScore says


Google maintained its lead in the U.S. search market in November, accounting for 39.8% of all the searches submitted, according to comScore Media Metrix. Yahoo accounted for 29.5% of searches followed by MSN at 14.2%.

Americans conducted 5.19 billion online searches in November, up 9% from November 2004, comScore said. Google sites recorded the most searches (2.05 billion), followed by Yahoo sites (1.52 billion), MSN-Microsoft Sites (728.8 million), Time Warner Network (446 million), and Ask Jeeves (336.3 million).

Google experienced a 5.2% increase in its share of online searches in November and Ask Jeeves recorded a 1% increase. Yahoo’s share dropped 2.5%, while MSN’s share declined 1.8% and Time Warner’s dropped 0.4 %

Yahoo and Google continued to vie for the top position in toolbar search, according to comScore. Yahoo sites accounted for 48.5% of toolbar searches, edging out Google’s 46.4% share. Toolbar search represented 12% of total searches in November.
