Oracle buys 360Commerce for store systems technology

Oracle Corp., in an extension of its Oracle Retail unit, is acquiring web-based point-of-sale and store systems provider 360Commerce, the companies said. Terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition is the latest move by Oracle to expand its new Oracle Retail software unit, which already includes the merchandising and other retail operations software from the former Retek Inc. and the price optimization technology from ProfitLogic.

“We’re acquiring 360Commerce as part of a strategy to deliver all the benefits of retail optimization down to the store level,” says David Boyce, vice president of global marketing for Oracle Retail. The addition of 360Commerce to the Oracle software suite will let retailers view data on inventory and pricing down to individual stores, providing a greater ability to assure that they keep the best-selling products in front of customers, he adds.

Analysts say 360Commerce also extends the POS technology capabilities of the Retek software. “360Commerce gives Oracle a second, and more scalable, point-of-sale application to complement its existing POS and multi-channel retailing product that Oracle gained with the acquisition of Retek,” says Scott Langdoc, retail analyst and vice president at AMR Research Inc.
