EXE Demonstrates Continued Supply Chain Execution Leadership in Retail Grocery Sector

Grocery Retailer, Somerfield Store Ltd, converts fourth site to latest version of EXceed Fulfill Warehouse Management System

Bristol, England, May 28, 2002 – Global supply chain execution (SCE) leader EXE Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXEE) announced today the go-live of a fourth distribution centre using EXE`s advanced warehouse management software at Somerfield Stores Ltd. Part of an aggressive roll-out strategy, the well-known UK retailer expects the warehouse management system (WMS) to be running at 14 of their depots by mid 2004.

Somerfield – which can trace its west country roots back to 1875 - is one of just a handful of players in the world`s most competitive grocery retail market, with over 1,330 stores, 12 million customer visits per week and a 6.8% share of the UK market*. Following a merger with the discount specialist Kwik Save in 1998, the combined company decided to standardise their warehouse operations with a single WMS platform.

"The Kwik Save business was already using and benefiting from the EXceed WMS," comments Roger Hughes, Associate Director in IT at Somerfield. "We saw an opportunity for the combined companies to upgrade to the latest version of EXceed WMS and realise the benefits of enhanced radio frequency and labour standards control."

"In the last year, we`ve upgraded three existing EXceed sites, including our national distribution centre, and replaced an in-house system which was serving the South East area," says Hughes. "We`ve been extremely satisfied with the speed of implementation of the system and know that EXceed will play a major part in our strategy to improve product availability and selection."

"EXE has led the way in grocery retail supply chain systems for many years," commented Steve Smith, EXE`s Managing Director for the UK and Nordics. "We`re delighted that Somerfield has acknowledged the benefits an advanced WMS can drive for their business and have chosen to standardise their operations on the EXceed platform."
