Nordstrom’s new microsite is the height of fashion

Nordstrom Inc. is gathering a host of fashion icons on a new web site that will make use of flash technology to display products in a more lively fashion. Nordstrom on Feb. 6 will launch its Designer Collections microsite, which will feature 10 of the biggest names in high-end apparel, including Giorgio Armani, Blumarine, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Missoni, Ralph Lauren and Roberto Cavalli.

The new microsite, which will be accessible through a prominent link on the Nordstrom.com home page, will meld illustrations, animation and fashion photography to present apparel in a highly stylized manner. Nordstrom.com, No. 42 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, is designing the site to resemble an avenue of shops; each of the 10 designers has created the look for its online facade. Dolce and Gabbana’s shop looks like an Italian pallazo; Marc Jacobs’ features the ivy-covered front of the designer’s Los Angeles store.

The site offers ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories collections in a complete designer merchandise setting. The site also features a store locator and designer event listings. The microsite is the first phase of an 18-month online project that will include adding more designers, department shops and e-commerce functionality.

Nordstrom is making e-commerce a top development priority. In November, the company launched Silverscreen, an interactive media channel offering broadband video content that is a mixture of music, fashion, pop culture and merchandising presented in a 1980s theme.
