Dick`s Sporting Goods selects Global Sports to operate its web business
Dick’s Sporting Goods, a $900 million a year sporting goods retailer with 100 stores in 21 states, is revamping its web site and has chosen Global Sports Inc., a leading developer and operator of e-commerce sporting goods businesses, to develop and operate the new DicksSportingGoods.com online store. Pittsburgh-based Dick`s Sporting Goods is the second largest full-line sporting goods retailer in the U.S. It expects sales this year of $1 billion.
Dick’s already has an online presence, having operated an e-commerce site since January 1999, utilizing internal resources as well as third party relationships. The new site is expected to launch this quarter. "We clearly believe in offering a multi-channel shopping experience to consumers and have successfully executed upon this strategy,” said Dick`s Sporting Goods Chairman and CEO Ed Stack. “Partnering with Global Sports to operate our e-commerce business going forward will enable us to focus on our aggressive new store growth plans, while maximizing our online opportunities."
