eVineyard opts for EasyAsk search system

eVineyard, an online seller of domestic and imported wines, will implement search technology from EasyAsk Inc., a provider of precise search technology for e-commerce sites and information portals, the companies announced today.

With EasyAsk, customers will be presented with a choice of wines from eVineyard's virtual inventory in response to plain English or keyword searches. "After seeing a live demonstration of EasyAsk implemented against our product catalog, it was clear that EasyAsk would offer our customers the most rewarding online shopping experience," said Mike Osborn, vice president of technology and co-founder of eVineyard. "With EasyAsk, our customers will be able to find a specific wine they wish to purchase or easily identify wines that are similar in style and price. We have had a number of customers who were unable to locate a specific wine on the site, due largely to the limitations of the search mechanism we had in place. The EasyAsk demonstration converted us immediately."

eVineyard, launched in May 1999, sells over 5,000 domestic and imported premium wines and offers online education, promotions and loyalty programs, sweepstakes events and a wine club. It operates 10 logistic centers. The company says it expects to achieve profitability in 2001.
