RealNetworks and Cox singing the same tune

RealNetworks Inc., a digital music subscription service with more than 1.3 million subscribers, and Cox Communications Inc., a national cable television company, have signed an agreement under which Cox will offer its high-speed Internet customers RealNetwork’s Rhapsody online music service. Cox also will offer select Rhapsody services to its customers on Cox.net.

Rhapsody provides unlimited on-demand access to a library of music and streaming radio and other services. The two companies are integrating the fees for both services in customers’ monthly Cox cable bills.

Now RealNetworks, No. 218 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, has begun using web-based applications to open up Rhapsody to music customers with Apple Macintosh computers and PCs or laptops with Linux operating systems.
